if he makes fun of me

For the first half of Adam's life, I was the source of much unsolicited advice. But since then, he has worked hard to produce his art and his ideas to share with everyone. His hard work, determination and friendliness have created an environment of understanding, creativity, empathy and motivation. It may be only paper, but once completed, it will become a powerful tool for you to see where you have been and where you want to grow.

His book is a credit to him and his honesty and compassion for others.

But, if he makes fun of me, cut me some slack....

It's Awesome. If You Buy This, You'll be Awesome, too!

I've been a big fan of Adam's stuff for quite some time and I was so excited to hear that he was finally coming out with a book. I've been using his calendar/planner since the beginning of the year and I still find myself having fun with it every day. I knew a book would be no different.

First off, I quite adore his style. His writing is witty. His sketches are fun and whimsical. He always keeps me guessing about what's on the next page. I'm always excited to get to the next day. It's almost a challenge to keep myself from peeking ahead sometimes.

This type of book--the journal prompt, sketchy, inspiration-filled, page-a-day books--is honestly a-dime-a-dozen, but Adam's book is different. Don't get me wrong. He still has tons of creativity, inspiration, motivation, and wit on each page, of course. But there is one huge difference: he helps you learn more about yourself. While some pages are just goofy and fun to fill in, may prompts will make you stop and think.

In conclusion, this book is awesome. If you fill it out, you will be awesome, too.

(Also I think it's the absolute cutest thing ever that his mom wrote a review and let everyone know her son is the bomb. Cutest. Thing. Ever.)

Georg Simmel (1858–1918) taught at the University of Berlin and, later, at the University of Strasbourg. Donald N. Levine is the Peter B. Please, will somebody tell me what this means?

This book has a beautiful picture of Georg Simmel on the front cover,and the back cover has blurbs by very famous people (Horkheimer, Park, Habermas). But they say how great Simmel is, not how good the book is.

I could not figure out what Simmel was trying to say. If someone told me Simmel was parodying the Germanic idealist literary tradition of the time, I would be prepared to believe it. Here is one sentence chosen at random (p. 63): "The inorganic body is distinguished from the living one above all by this: the form that defines it is determined from outside... The organic body, however, produces its form from within."

Well, I do declare! That is really deep and insightful. If you are about eight years old. The whole book reminded me of the movie "Being There" in which Peter Sellers is mentally retarded but everyone takes his pithy statements seriously because he dresses impeccably and has a perfect upper class British accent.

Perhaps some reader will tell me what this book is really all about.

About the Author

Pat Williams is a motivational speaker, author of 90 books, and cofounder and senior vice president of the NBA s Orlando Magic. Named one of the 50 most influential people in NBA history, he is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts and won a league championship as general manager of the 1983 Philadelphia 76ers. Pat and his wife, Ruth, are parents of 19 children, including 14 adopted from four nations. An Army veteran, former minor league baseball player, and host of three radio programs, Pat also teaches Sunday school in his Orlando church.
 

Jim Denney is a writer with dozens of books to his credit, including titles with NFL legend Reggie White, supermodel Kim Alexis, and radio host Michael Reagan. A full-time writer since 1989, he has written books both for adults and children, including the Timebenders science fiction series. Jim lives in California.

I loved reading "Leadership Excellence." This book is so thorough and insightful. The stories Pat Williams tells and the people he writes about are fascinating and compelling. I learned so much about leadership, and I am very excited to implement what I've learned. My hope is that as many people as possible read this book and strive to put its principles into practice. I just finished the book yesterday, but I have already recommended it to so many people, and I strongly recommend it to you.

Accurate prediction

As Froude predicted, we gave them self government. As Froude predicted, the whites mostly fled. And as Froude predicted, everything went to hell in a handbasket.

Froude was nostalgic for the good old days of colonialism, when colonials were pirates and brigands. This empire stuff is no good he tells us, due to meddling do-gooders in Whitehall out of contact with reality. He does not quite say empire is a communist plot, since communists were not on the horizon back then, but this modern reader was apt to anachronistically feel that empire was a communist plot.

Froude's attitude to empire is well expressed by this poem, which he quotes in full

Oh ! England is a pleasant place for them that's rich and high,
But England is a cruel place for such poor folks as I ;
And such a port for mariners I'll never see again
As the pleasant Isle of Aves beside the Spanish main.

There were forty craft in Aves that were both swift and stout,
All furnished well with small arms and cannon all about ;
And a thousand men in Aves made laws so fair and free
To choose their valiant captains and obey them loyally.

Then we sailed against the Spaniard with his hoards of plate and gold,
Which he wrung with cruel tortures from Indian folks of old ;
Likewise the merchant captains, with hearts as hard as stone,
Who flog men and keelhaul them and starve them to the bone.

it is in like new condition

I don't know if it was intentional, or an accident, but I paid for a paper back and got the hardback copy!!!!! And, other than a few light notations next to some of the photos (which were actually helpful), it is in like new condition.
I was trained using this book almost 30 years ago, and the book was not available anywhere at that time (I have been looking for it ever since, and so excited to find it now)...I was thinking there was more in depth personality information in it...that must have been more from my trainer, and as I'm starting up a consultation service again, I'm regretting getting rid of my notes...
But this is a must have for any color analysis library
I highly recommend watching some of John Kitchner's (JCP) videos on YouTube...his system is based on Suzanne's theories, but has been brought into the 21st century...it is by far the best of all the systems being offered today

Suzanne Caygill originated the whole concept of color analysis for the individual, beginning in 1942. After working for years with color and style as a milliner and designer, she experienced a "revelation" about the relationship between a person's natural coloration (as seen in the pigments in their skin, hair and eyes) and the color harmonies of nature. In addition to color, she also developed her theories on personality and style for each season. While a person's color palette is unique to them, Suzanne found certain recurring patterns of personality and style, as revealed by the colors. For example, the colors that emerge for "Spring personalities" are "clear," while those for Summer are "muted." Suzanne said that she worked with 64 different personality types, and she used names to help a person relate to nature: "Early Spring," "Golden Spring," "Waterlily Spring," "Apple Blossom Spring," "Vital Spring" and many others. While two "Vital Springs" would have similarity in style, energy, and personality characteristics -- their colors could be very different, depending on their individual pigmentation.
Suzanne decried the "simple" color systems, popularized first by the 1970's book "Color Me Beautiful," which coded people to 1 of 4 "sets" of colors. But Suzanne's artistry and genius was not easy to replicate. Her clients came primarily through referrals -- including families with four generations having their "colors done by Suzanne." She started her 10-week Academy of Color in the late 70's for select students, some of whom have now gone on to train others.

Condition Not Quite Up to Expectations

Although all pages were intact, based on the description of the condition of the book, I didn't expect as much wear as it had. Interestingly, the original price on this book when it was new was $65, so it's value has certainly held up over the years.

Too much detail

While this book is probably the most comprehensive immunology textbook in the field, it is overwhelmed with detail--so much so that the "big picture" becomes obscure. Whenever a pathway is presented, the authors list the names of nearly all the intermediate proteins/enzymes involved, even if their functions are of little relevance OR are currently unknown. For many students, these details are irrelevant and end up confusing them more than enriching their understanding of the material; if, for some reason, a particular reader seeks additional detail on a particular topic, they can easily obtain the details by reading the references that are cited at the end of the chapter. Additionally, the review questions at the end of each chapter are very simplistic (although this is not a huge factor in my evaluation).

Excellent textbook for studying basic immunology for the ambitious undergraduate student, normal graduate student, and those who want to brush up on their (ahem) incomplete knowledge. Nice cartoon schematics.

This is an excellent texbook of immunology - I bought it in both printed and electronic editions. I have to admit it is a dense reading, but certainly worth it!
